Collection: HOKIANGA RAU

The Rau (leaf) continues to be my signature medium for exploration and expression of ideas
around identity, belonging and whakapapa (genealogy).

It is said that “If you don't know your family's history, then you don't know anything. You are a leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree”. I like to think I am protecting and nourishing that tree.

Whakataukī / Whakatauākī (Māori proverbs) are a poetic form of the Māori language often merging historical events, or holistic perspectives with underlying messages which are extremely influential in Maori society.
