PUNA CREWS

Kupe had a desire to explore our natural world and his pursuit of knowledge led him here. He is acknowledged as a great explorer and navigator and  named the harbour, Te Puna i te Ao Mārama, (The Spring of the World of Light) on his arrival nd the moana, 

Tukutuku and taniko patterns Aronui  and niho taniwha refer to our Rangatira and kaitiaki acknowledging their hunger and sharing of knowledge, strength and leadership. The the kowhaiwhai pattern puhoro is representive of journeys and the speed and strenght of  warriors.
